A market is referred to as a bull market when the market is continuously growing or climbing. The market develops when the economy is extremely strong. On the other hand, bear market is referred to as a bear market when the market is continuous decline. It happens when an economy enters recession.

Any seasoned investor will tell you that markets are in a perpetual state of upheaval, and not always because of bear or bull markets. Sometimes the market becomes flat because little gains and losses cancel each other out. Additional negative moves in the market may be caused by short-term trends or market corrections. Long periods of time may be devoted to either bull or bear markets, and history shows that the bulls have ultimately triumphed.

A bull market occurs when securities are on the rise, while a bear market occurs when securities fall for a sustained period of time. It's important to understand the differences between bull and bear markets and how they impact your investment decisions.
